The Iwami course includes the most popular beaches in Tottori. The total distance is 50km
with an elevation difference of 490m. Along the way you can visit the Tottori Sand Dunes,
Sand Museum, and Uradome Coast and Beaches.
The Tottori Sand Dunes are Tottori’s most famous tourist destination offering a landscape reminiscent of a desert that does not exist in Japan. At the Sand Museum located right next to them, you can appreciate the original works of sand artists from all over the world. As approaching the Uradome Coast, you can enjoy the beautiful contrast between the many strangely shaped rocks and the transparent ocean, the best scenery in the “San‘in region”.
2. “Lake Koyama”
The Lake Koyama course takes you around Karo Port, famous for delicious Matsuba crabs and local markets, and Lake Koyama, the largest “pond” in Japan, boasting a breathtaking view of five islands. The largest island, Aoshima, is home to 350 cherry trees, blooming in the early April.
Near the Lake Koyama, you can also enjoy a relaxing foot bath at the traditional Yoshioka Onsen hot springs. The temperature of the spring reaches 50 degrees Celsius or 122 degree Fahrenheit. The total distance is 40km with 150m elevation gain.
3.”Tono Dam” Cou
The Tono Dam course passes through the Tottori countryside, through the “satoyama” that evokes the image of an Japanese old village, and up to the dam lake built in the rugged mountain range upstream. The entire course is 45 km long, with an elevation difference of 400 m.
The destination, Tono Dam, is a unique rock-fill dam made by piling up rocks. It is also called the “Heisei Pyramid” for its beautiful appearance. There are many things to see and do in the surrounding area. The memorial square where the Tono Dam Community Center is located has a beautiful lawn. You can also walk on the dam. Experience the sheer scale of the dam and the natural beauty of the surroundings. There is little traffic around the dam, making it perfect for a leisurely cycle. You can receive a dam card as a souvenir at the Tono Dam Management Office. There is also a well-maintained walking course.
